BE CAREFUL OF ROOM TEMPERATURE
” I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good.”
Roald Dahl
“Come in the water is fine.” There was a time when I heard this phrase, it was music to my ears. Then at one point in life, I deviantly fought against the notion – I’ll take freezing or scalding, please.
There is a notion that as we age, our aversion to risk lessens. Comfort matters.
The Why Matters.
It is the “why” that is our anchor, even if our thinking, from the outside looking in, seems unreasonable. Wisdom teaches us that the foolish live in a world of implusivity, where regret can lurk in its shadows. A great life, one well-lived is mix of reasonable and purposeful chaos, no matter what the age.
As I celebrated Mothers day with my mom and sister, I thought about my decision to not have children. I could have stayed married, moved to Switzerland, taken the marketing job and eventually gotten pregnant. It for sure would not have been a boring life and in some ways would have fulfilled some dreams. Yet somehow and maybe it was impulsive, to ask for divorce, move to NYC via Philly and start my life over. There is a feeling that without children, life has less meaning, yet that somehow feels too reductive.
Life decisions are rarely that simple. When we leap and leave behind rationale, the perfectly reasonable process, all you can do is immerse yourself and embrace the choice.
Our decisions after all are choices. Ownership. And boy don’t some of those choices make our lives deliciously vibrant. A regret nowhere to be found.
Room temperature gets stale.
